It’s Wednesday, which means you have fought tirelessly to get through Monday, survived Tuesday and Friday is finally in sight. The mid-week “hump” is that point in the week where you still have a ton of work to get through but your mind is telling you to wind down for the weekend. It is also where creativity, productivity and aspiration all start to lack and we find ourselves stuck in the Wednesday slump.
Although Friday is in reaching distance it is essential that you don’t get too excited too soon. There is still quite a lot of work to get through and it is crucial that you don’t get distracted before finishing it.
There are many things you can do to rejuvenate your working self during Hump Day and we’ve pulled together out top 5 tips to help see you through.
Tip 1: Tidy your Work-space
You know the saying ‘Tidy Space, Tidy Mind,’ well this can apply to your desk at work too. If you are finding it difficult to concentrate and get one simple task done then it’s probably time to take a break and tidy your work-space. Organising your desk will give you that much needed rest from your work and will clear your mind. You’ll be able to return to your tasks after this and with a much clearer outlook.
Tip 2: Change your Routine
Being stuck in the same routine is one way of completely killing any motivation you have to get any work done. Work tasks are repetitive, we all know that, but if you change your routine you will be able to approach them with a whole new life. Instead of sitting try standing, this has lots of benefits! Also try changing the order that you complete your tasks. Try doing reports first and then answer emails later. The smallest changes can make a big difference.
Tip 3: Prioritise your Work Load
Wednesday can feel stressful if you have lots of work to do. With the looming weekend it’s easy to go into panic mode that you will not complete it all before then. The key to dealing with this is to remain calm and start to prioritise your work. Begin working on the most important tasks and then go from there. If it ends up that you haven’t done everything you needed to do, it should be fine because chances are it isn’t that important anyway.
Tip 4: Treat Yourself
It’s probably been a tough week so far so you deserve to treat yourself. Use Wednesday as your treat day. During your lunch go out for some food or go for a coffee with a friend. Have that slice of cake or indulge in something that will make you feel good. By making Wednesday your treat day you will look forward to it more and it won’t seem like so much of a drag.
Tip 5: Know that the Weekend is Nigh!
Wednesday’s do pass and when they do you are one step closer to the freedom of the weekend. Plan something fun for your weekend so that you will look forward to it.
Remember that Wednesday is no different than any other day of the week if you are in the right mind-set. Of course Hump Day has it’s challenges but if you approach it head on and with the right attitude you’ll be able to beat it and see the rewards.
